Brownies and Piping Basics

Started the day early with a 5km walk around the neighbourhood and felt all the more energised for it! Finally caught all these autorickshaws standing still in a place:) They are always usually buzzing around the city like bumblebees.

Autorickshaws getting ready for the day after a well deserved rest overnight!

The days are slowly settling into a routine and the feels good!

We paused the class to have some breakfast and went #local again by trying idlis from local wandering vendors. Idlis are typically a South Indian breakfast and are not so common (at least good ones) in the Northern cities of India. Mumbai is an exception due to its cosmopolitan nature and higher South Indian population. There are many idli vendors who go around bringing idlis, chutney and sambar for a quick breakfast. We are waiting for the vendor who comes to the academy. However, in the meantime, Nani got us some from the vendor in her neighbourhood and they were yummy. Drowned in Sambar or on the side? to each his own!

Today’s class was fully with Chef Hrudhvi. Morning class was on making yumy chewy eggless brownies. Another student made egged brownies so we have point of comparison! After measuring out all the ingredients, started mixing the batter together. I learnt how to make brownies with different toppings like walnuts, strawberries, cream cheese and oreo cookies! Also learnt how to make a brownie with a cookie base which involves baking the brownie batter onto a base of cookie dough.

Results were yummy and one could hardly taste the difference in taste between the egged and eggless variety.

We even made a sizzling brownie where the brownie was placed on a sizzling cast iron plate and served with ice cream with chocolate drizzle on top-heavenly

It was time for lunch and this time we opted to try Desi Chinese or Indian Chinese-basically a different kind of chinese. Chef Hrudhvi to the rescue again with her recommendation of Meraki. We ordered veg Wanton and Sichuan noodles.

Cost about 530 ruppes in total (approx Rm30) and could feed 3 people easily-portions were huge! We all sat and ate together trying different foods and also Chaas- local spiced buttermilk which was very tasty. Food was tasty and very different to the Chinese food we are typically used to!

On to the afternoon class and this was a creative class on basic piping techniques. We learnt about different nozzles and piping techniques and had fun practising!

See if you can spot the Christmas tree!

Friday evening sums the end of Week 1 in Mumbai and it has been a very fulfilling experience! Have a good weekend all. We have class whole day tomorrow and it is also Anishaa’s birthday so we have a few surprises lined up for that! Watch this space!
